Family/Kids Portraits

I try to make the session as fun and relaxed as possible.  I like to get to know my clients so beforehand we will either talk on the phone or via email so I can make sure to get a feeling for what you are looking for along with any special requests.  A family session will usually last about 40-60 minutes, depending on the location and amount of people. The day of the session, when we first begin, I try to spend a few minutes getting to know the kids so they can feel more relaxed and show their true personality.  I try to get the posed & special request shots out of the way first so afterward the kids can relax and I can focus on candids of the kids and the family. Please try to avoid disciplining your kids for not smiling or looking at the camera as this will stress you and the children out and it will show in the pictures.  Ideally, this will be a fun day your family can remember for years to come, not a stressful or sad event.  As a Mom of three young kids, I’ve also had moments where they don’t want to cooperate so I totally understand! I’ve got lots of ways to get the kids focused and smiling so please leave it to me so you can relax and enjoy your session.

Studio Sessions

Newborn sessions, milestone sessions, cake smashes and many themed mini sessions take place in my in-home studio.  My studio space is small but you are welcome to be in there with me while shooting.  You are also welcome to leave the studio briefly and relax in my living room as needed.  My studio is set to accomodate small children only.  I can do some posed family shots but due to the size of the studio posing will be limited.  Family sessions are best scheduled for an outdoor/on location sessoin.  I will provide props for your studio session, if there is anything particular you want photographed, please bring it for your session.  We will discuss your color preferences, themes, likes/dislikes of the child etc so that I can provide the best representation for your session.  Together we will customize your session.

Newborn Portraits

When you arrive for a newborn session at my in home studio, we will take a few minutes to go over the props and set ups I have prepared.  We can make any minor changes needed at that time.  Once we go into the studio, I will take the baby out of the carseat. I prefer to be the one to get him/her out and hold them so they can get used to my voice, smell and touch before we begin. The studio will be very warm to help keep the baby as content as possible.  Please dress in layers so you can stay comfortable.  If we are doing parent or sibling poses, we will do those first so you can relax for the rest of the session.  Once parent and sibling poses are completed, baby can be fed while I set up for prop or bean bag poses.  At anytime that you need to leave the studio, you are free to do so.  You are welcome to relax in my living room if you choose.  Please know that it is expected that the baby will fuss, pee and even poop on me or my props.  It is ok!  I expect it and I am shocked when it doesn't happen.  Please expect to bring a pacifier to help keep the baby content in a pose.  Being able to sooth him/her while in a pose will help your session run smoother and go faster.  Newborn sessions often go into or over lunch time, please bring snack or even feel free to bring lunch.  I want you to be as comfortable as possible.
